Caerhays Castle: An Introduction to its History, Owners and Gardens"

Charles Williams, Peter Herring, Jaimie Parsons, Courtenay Smale, and Stephen Tyrrell

The book examines the history of the area in Cornwall where Caerhays is located, and includes detailed tours of both house and garden.  As well as including specialist sections and records for gardeners, botanists, and plant collectors, htere are chapters on history, architecture, early settlements, paper roofs, the medieval house, and the gardens.  There is even a cake recipe from A.D. 1700.

The chapters detail the families that have lived at Caerhays, including the Travanions, once ne of Cornwall's great dynasties, before dramatic bankruptcy.  It also is the story of the Williams family, who achieved wealth in busness and mining activities and then spent it on houses, gardens, and their tenants, and who developed a strain of camellia hybrids that bears the family name -- C.x williamsii.
