    Camellia of the Month

Photo:  Luise Wolff-Boresch, in Ottweiler, Germany.

Camellia irrawadiensis was blooming in Luise's greenhouse attached to her home in Germany in January, despite the snow outside.  "I would not dare to plant it in the garden [outside]", she says.  "It is still a small plant, but a fast grower.  In the summer, it is outside."

Luise says the plant is particularly special to her because she belongs to a society in Saarbrücken, Germany, which supports a school in Mandalay and one in Mingun, Myanmar.  She has a foster child living in Mingun by the river Irrawadii.

Send the ICS website a photo of one of your favourite camellias for our "Camellia of the month" display. Tell us a little bit about it -- where it originated and when, and why you like it!
