Camellia of the Month

'Campfire', a new seedling from Neville Haydon in New Zealand.

'Campfire' is a new non-retic hybrid, a hand-pollinated cross made in 2001 between C.pitardii hybrid 'Peggy Burton' x  C.japonica 'Black Magic', from Neville Haydon, the New Zealand hybridizer who has previously introduced such delights as the  non-retic hybrid' Baby Bear', C.japonica 'Takanini', and C.reticulata hybrid 'Chrissie's Retic'.   First flowering was in 2004. The bloom won the "best seedling award" at New Zealand's National Show this past August, Neville reports.

Send the ICS website a photo of one of your favourite camellias for our "Camellia of the month" display. Tell us a little bit about it -- where it originated and when, and why you like it!
